If you play Omaha Holdem, also known as Omaha you will know its a poker variation which is very similar to Texas Holdem in the fact that each player will get a set of private cards dealt and then they use a community hand of 5 cards in order to make the best possible hand.

The casino term to play Omaha could result in a number of different variations of poker, Omaha High is another term which is used for the traditional version of the game. There is also Omaha Hi Lo, Omaha eight or better and Omaha/8 which are other popular variations that are played across the world.

Omaha is generally played with a pot limit in the online and offline world, you can find no limit variations but they are fairly rare.

The main differences between Omaha and Texas Holdem are as follows:

Each player gets dealt a private hand of 4 cards opposed to 2.

At the showdown, each hand must consist of 2 of their own cards, you cannot use 4 of the community cards plus 1 from your private hand. For example if the community cards contained J,J,4,4,7 you cannot use a 4 to create a full house like you can in Texas Holdem.

When you play Omaha the layouts and betting rounds are exactly the same as Texas Holdem so if you are a confident player you can pick up the rules in no time. Like any other poker variation you should do your research and set a minimum starting hand, this will ensure that you get the best chance of making a profit.
